Eyeliner Tutorial for Hooded Eyes: Thin Lines and an Open-Eye Wing

This eyeliner tutorial for hooded eyes starts with the eyes open and the brows relaxed, then builds a thin line and a short wing around the visible lid space.

Eyeliner Tutorial for Hooded Eyes: Thin Lines and an Open-Eye Wing

Position the Wing with Your Eyes Naturally Open

Place the mirror directly in front of you and relax your expression. Avoid lifting your eyebrows or pulling the eyelid upward. Make a short, light mark near the outer corner, then check whether the fold conceals it before choosing the direction of the wing.

Keep the wing short while you practise. A smaller extension is easier to adjust when comparing the two sides. The outer corner and the end of the brow can serve as visual references; your eyes do not need to form identical geometric angles.

Keep the Line Close to the Upper Lashes

Finish a small section at the outer lash line, then work inward in short strokes. Keep the line thin enough to preserve the visible lid space. If it disappears, check its position before making it darker or thicker across the whole lid.

To connect the wing, lower your gaze slightly to inspect any gaps, fill only what is needed, and look forward again. A line that appears angled across a fold with the eye closed may look continuous when the eye is open. Judge the result in the position in which you want it to be seen.

Correct One Area Instead of Repeatedly Thickening the Line

If one wing extends too far, use a cotton bud with a small amount of eye-area makeup remover to refine the edge. Let the surface dry before redrawing. Keep the other eye as a reference and avoid tugging at the skin while you adjust.

For an everyday look, a fine line and mascara may provide all the definition you want. Extend the wing gradually if you prefer a stronger shape. With hooded eyes, suitable placement matters more than adding thickness; change one variable at a time while practising.
